Susan Grimsey is now retired but prior to retirement she was an Assistant Headteacher in a highly successful Secondary School. Susan started teaching mathematics thirty-five years ago joining Southfield School after graduating from Loughborough University. Prior to entering senior leadership Susan held posts as Assistant Professional Tutor with responsibility for supporting new staff and Head of Faculty (Mathematics, IT, Business Studies and Economics). During her time as Head of Faculty Susan developed the mathematics department into an outstanding team, consistently producing results well above national figures and a beacon department that frequently shared its expertise with other schools.
Susan joined the leadership team in June 2017 and has used her skills and expertise to contribute to the raising of standards in other key subject areas such as English and Science. Prior to her retirement in August 2020 she held a range of whole school responsibilities which included; curriculum development – running the Curriculum Leader team, co-leading a whole school Curriculum review and working with other local schools to develop cross-school departmental links, and data and standards – working with Key Stage Co-ordinators, the QA team and using data analysis tools to set targets and raise standards across the whole school.
Susan enjoys walking, travelling in her campervan, reading and a variety of crafts including sewing, knitting and crochet. She has previously been a Beaver Scout Leader, Church Youth club Leader and a committee member of a local youth brass band and a local school fundraising group.
